World Globe Shows Me Where To Go By JPnMO on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

I've always been fascinated by globes. It's easy to forget there is a big world out there besides what goes on in my little corner of it.

I received this globe and thought it was perfect for my office. It's 15" tall and the colors are brilliant. It has brass legs and trim and includes a compass.

I'm hardly a world traveler, but I've been to some places that are far from where I live and it's fun to see how far apart they are on a globe. Also, when there is news from faraway places, I enjoy looking for them. My geography skills are somewhat pathetic, so this helps me get a general idea of where the places are located.

The globe description says it is decorated with semi-precious stones and other stone groups from around the world. Each stone is hand-picked by expert stonecutters and inlaid onto the globe. Not being an expert on stones, it was great that a descriptive card was included that shows each stone and tells what it is. The list of stones is: Picture Jasper, Black Stone, Turquoise, Malachite, Tiger Skin Stone, Topaz, Serppegiante, South African Nephrite, Adventurine and Volakas. Very few of those names mean anything to me, but they are quite pretty on the globe.

Even with the internet and detailed maps available online in an instant, the charm of an old globe never dies.
