Zyban Wellbutrin To Quit Smoking By Zef88 on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
I'm currently trying to quit smoking and a friend recommended Zyban to me. Zyban is the equivilant to wellbutrin (an antidepressant) but marketed as a smoking cessation aid. This stuff works wonders. The second day after taking it i went from a pack a day smoker to a one cigarette a day smoker that I didn't even enjoy. Eventually I quit entirely, and felt absolutely no need to smoke. Now the bad news: when I was on this stuff it made me feel like I was going crazy. My anxiety shot up through the roof and situations where I'd normally feel comfortable felt oddly anxiety ridden. The side effects were so bad that I discontinued use of the drug and unfortunately resumed my smoking habits. I believe that everyone who wants to give smoking should give this drug a try because some people report little to no side effects and others actually feel BETTER after taking it. For readers wondering if the symptoms I experienced from Zyban were just the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal I can assure you that they differ completely. I have quit smoking cold turkey before and although I feel agitated and would kill somebody for a cigarette, I don't feel like I'm going insane like I did on Zyban.

I also had a bad reaction to Zyban, and I know that it wasn't because of nicotine withdrawal because I started taking the Zyban two weeks before my quit date! Although the Zyban was starting to dampen my urges to smoke, it made me feel so strange that I stopped taking it before I actually quit. Oh well. But I do know people who felt fine on the Zyban and some who felt so good they wanted to take it forever! So it's certainly worth a try.
I have never heard of anyone having a bad reaction to this. Sorry to hear.
I've never heard of this being used to quit smoking. I have heard of other people experiencing the feelings you had from antidepressants though. Sorry it didn't work for you. Hope you found something else that did help! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Glad that it work for you. The courage to try to stop is already very postive on your part. Keep it up. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
I'm so sorry that the side effects made you crazy-is there anything else you are able to take?
Glad that this product works as you wanted it too. Thanks for sharing
Zyban didn't work for my husband at all, although he didn't have the same side effects that you experienced.
I'm so sorry to hear that you had a bad reaction to the Wellbutrin. I used it to quit smoking but I was fortunate not to have any type of reaction - other than quitting. I hope you are able to find something that works for you. Good luck.
My cousin had wonderful results using Wellbutin to quit smoking and she LOST 15 pounds too!
