Apple has made its name by providing very uncluttered and focus designs in just about every product they make.  Just look at the fully contained iMac.  The Apple remote is a perfect example of a product that has a very very clean design and does what it does well.  It is focused.  Therefore, you aren't going to program it to close the powered curtains and dim the lights....
