Shopping / Luggage / Tournamax Inexpensive Duffle Bag - Didnt Hold Up

I purchased this duffle on sale and have had two years of use out of it, so I can’t complain too much, but even so I was hoping for better results.

This duffle bag is a generous 9 x 12 x 24 inches, and is made of sturdy cordura nylon, but sadly, one of the seams pulled apart this summer.  I’ll probably try to repair it, but it will be difficult to stabilize the raveled fabric enough to hold well.  And it never even had the rough handling one has to expect from airlines; I’ve only used it in the car.

On the positive side, the bag only cost $9.99 on sale, and I’ve used it pretty regularly for two years.

It has a large central compartment with a dual zipper.  On the front is a large flat zipper compartment with a smaller zipper pocket on the front of that. I don’t find these flat pockets very useful.  Each end has a separate zipper compartment.  I use one for toiletries, and the other for underwear.

There are two clip buckle straps across the top, webbing handles which can be velcro fastened together, and there is a shoulder strap which is removable.  The shoulder strap doesn’t show in my pictures, because I don’t use it.  The rings that the strap clips to are rather lightweight. The buckles are cheap, and don’t clip together smoothly, but they aren’t terrible.  The webbing is good and heavy, stable, and doesn’t twist. The zippers have held up fine.  I really expected that they would give out first on an inexpensive duffle.

So I had been thinking that I got a pretty good deal on this bag.  But somehow, this last trip, the bag must have gotten smushed in some unexpected way, or caught on something.  The rip is at a seam, and the fabric has pulled out of the seam for about three inches and frayed.

A friend of mine has a much more expensive duffle of the same basic design that has a similar split, so I guess I should be glad that I only spent a small amount of money on mine.  But I would have preferred that it lasted better.

  • Uh-oh! Thanks for the tip about the bag. I don't understand why it's so difficult for companies who make millions of dollars to make decent products that last. I enjoyed your review.
