Are You Always Losing Your Keys?

My husband is always losing his keys. (I confess that it happens to me pretty regularly also.) So for Christmas, one of the employees at his law office, got him a great novelty gift. It's a Whistle Key Finder. I laughed and laughed when I saw it, and thought it was a terrific gift. Of course, he left it in the box for ages, because he didn't want to figure out how it worked. So I decided to give it an audition.

Well, the installation was as easy as pulling the tab off the side. The hard part (for me at least) is whistling.  I've always had a backwards whistle. Instead of blowing out, I blow in. (Wierd, I know.) But I did manage a backwards whistle, and it worked perfectly several times. (I'm thinking of stealing it from him.)

It is also called a sonic key finder, and it has 3 functions. It's a key ring, a small LED flashlight, and a key finder. Sounds great, right? Well, there are a few problems.

A warning comes with the instructions, that says sometimes other sounds (like the TV, radio, or other noises) may cause the key finder to be activated. This could be embarrassing at times, as it is a little loud. But not to worry, it only blasts about 3 long times. Actually, it beeps and flashes. (So much for being inconspicuous.)

It uses two CR2016 lithium batteries (which are included.) Unfortunately, I tried it a few more times, while I was writing this review, and it failed to beep several times. But as I said, my whistle is not the best in town. At any rate, it works most of the time.  I'll give you an update later.

Update on February 17, 2009 01:56:

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!  Run away as fast as you can. You won't be able to stand it, because it keeps going off for EVERY loud sound (and some not so loud.) If I cough, it beeps.  If I rattle pots and pans in the kitchen, it beeps. If I laugh, it beeps. If I call out to someone in the house, it beeps. By the time you've been through all this beeping, you really don't care where your keys are. It would be embarassing most places that you would take your key chain. Imagine it going off in church, when someone shouted, "Amen." LOL! Back to the drawing board on this one.  It makes you wonder if they ever test drive half the products on the market!
