The Broadway musical Chicago is currently playing in New York City at the Ambassador Theatre. I think that it is a pretty good show, but not the best thing ever.
A lot of people are familiar with the movie Chicago, but the stage show came first, and this is the revival of the classic musical. There were parts of the show that I liked quite a bit, especially the big opening number "All That Jazz". But there were some moments that seemed really boring to me. Most of the songs are pretty catchy, though.
There really isn't too much scenery in Chicago. I guess that is the look that they wanted for this show, and they do pull it off well. But I thought that it looked weird sometimes when cast members were just sitting in chairs off to the side of the stage when they weren't performing. I expected there to be a lot of amazing dancing in the show, but I was really underwhelmed with what they did.
Tickets to Chicago range from $59-$112, but I purchased my tickets on the day of the show at the box office. They offer tickets that they call rush tickets for $26. I think that is a great deal and I was thrilled that they offered something so affordable. It involves a little bit of effort, since you have to be there when the box office opens, but it beats paying over $100 for a ticket.
