A few years ago a group of us got together and decided we needed a long weekend getaway. The guys wanted to play golf, the women wanted to relax and scrapbook and there had to be  things to do for the kids too. We also did not want to spend half of the weekend traveling to and from the resort. We found the perfect place in Callaway Gardens.

Callaway Gardens is located in Pine Mountain, Georgia about an hour from Atlanta. The resort is set on 13,000 acres and has one of the most beautiful golf courses in the United States. It is also ranked as one of the top courses in the U.S. by Golf Digest magazine. None of the guys had ever played there so they were excited about that. For us girls, one of the options for accommodations at Callaway are the cottages. They are 2 bedroom units with a living room, full kitchen, and have decks with a grill. This gave us plenty of room to bring along some big tables to set up our scrapbook supplies. The full kitchens and grills gave us the opportunity to cook meals there for everyone and not have to spend a fortune on eating out. Besides the golf course and the spa, there are the gardens themselves. Tickets are usually included when you a book a package and they should not be missed. They change with every season so they never look the same way twice. There is also North Americas largest free flight butterfly conservatory on the property. As you walk through the attraction the assortment of colors and types of butterflies is incredible. They are free flying so they are right there flying all around you, do not be surprised if one lands on your shoulder. The kids absolutely loved this. They also have a beach that goes around the lake and there are over 7 miles of bicycle trails to explore as well. The gardens hosts special events all year long from the Spring Celebration through the spectacular Fantasy in Lights which is the largest holiday light display in the south with over 8 million lights. We take a trip down every other year to see it and it gets bigger and better every time.

In the morning the guys got together and hit the golf course while the ladies got together to scrap and the kids to play games and run around outside. In the afternoons when the guys returned from the links, it was family time and we all split up to hit the beach, the trails or the gardens. At night the whole group would get back together and we would grill out and have a big feast.

We had the perfect long weekend of male, female and family bonding. If you are looking for a golf resort with activities for the whole family you may want to give Callaway Gardens a look it's a great place to go for a little R&R.
