I have been to resorts in many countries, perhaps most frequently in Maldives but nothing can compare to the experience we had in Huvafen Fushi. After a frantic work week in Male', we were picked up by a beautifully liveried staff in their signature boat. We cruised the 10 minutes to  the airport island to pick up other guests who were coming in from Europe. While waiting, the boat crew were very attentive and offered us cold drinks, towels and outrageous stories of the Islands. When we found that the flight was  delayed, the crew made the right decision and we shot off to Huvavenfushi with 400 horsepower at the full race. Another boat was sent to pick up the incoming guests. In 30 minutes, we wove in through the coral to be met by the managers and staff at the end of the dock. From the racing boat to Island sleepy in 2 minutes as we were gently squired to our private bungalow. Each bungalow has its own small swimming pool tucked away in the back, outdoors and surrounded by flowers and palms A full suite of best media sits for those that just can't fade into the crystal sand and azure lagoon in front. Upon arrival, we saw some guests whose flights were much later than check out-time, lounging in the library and the pool. What a change from being hustled out to a waiting area because your time is up! 

For guests who are not content to wade in their private pools, there is the fabulous infinity pool with its constant visitor, the supercilious heron. On the shore close to the pool, guests  enjoy watching and  swimming with baby sharks feeding on little fish right up shore line. And wherever you look, a rainbow of reef fish competing for your attention. You just must snorkle. In the evenings, the resort has also organized feeding sting rays that will come right up to your...gulp...toes.. There is a marine biologist on staff to ensure the health of the corals and answer the barrage of questions..

A real feature is the effort  to offer healthier meals. There is always fruit and a garden of salads. There is an underwater cellar where a few guests dine each evening. It is quite an experience to try the delicately prepared dishes with a first class cellar sitting right in front of you.  The evening can last until dawn when the conversation gradually fades into the sound of the morning breeze through the palms.

There is the world's first under water spa as well. In the expert hands of Thai, Filipino and Indonesian masters, the Per Aquum spa experience becomes very relaxing. Snorkle, dive, swim, snooze and just sink into life...what a fantastic experience. No, it is not inexpensive.......but once in your life..........Yes!
