Dysfunctional families come in all different ways, shapes and forms, some of us think we have the most dysfunctional family others think their family is perfectly normal. A very good Doctor told me once that there was no such thing as normal in life except on your washer, dryer and dishwasher.
I think about the 50's to the 70's and how families were close nit just like the old days, we had family reunions. We had holidays all together and on weekends, we would take turns having a meal on the weekends. We did not know what dysfunctional was we never heard of such a thing.
In the last thirty to forty years, it has become very apparent that dysfunctional families are real and most of them are like soap operas. I had to stop listen and learn from my little sister.
Here we are in 2010 and I am realizing that the family I grew up with is not the functional family I thought we were the more I write the more I see. That Doctor I told you about was right when he said that the only normal was on your washer, dryer or dishwasher.
My little sister says our family is not only dysfunctional our family could make a good soap opera. Giving me a great idea for a book, so I walk around with a note pad and keep it by my bedside writing down everything and anything I can remember from growing up. I have found through my experiences that we all have some kind of dysfunction.
I also have learned that even though my family was very dysfunctional, it is not an excuse for anything I have done wrong in life. I am responsible for my own actions just as we all are today.
