Facebook and other forms of social networking are quickly growing in popularity. Not only is it fun and easy to connect with new friends and locate old ones, but businesses and customers—or potential customers—can easily find each other as well. Creating a Page for your business, product, or organization is not difficult and you can be up and running within about an hour.
Do I Create a Profile, Group, or Page?
Before you create your Page, it's important to understand the different between Profiles, Groups, and Pages so you pick the right one. A Profile is for an individual person, and you will need one of these to create the other two. However, if you want to remain anonymous, you can keep this Profile private. A Profile requires your approval before anyone can add you as a friend. A Group is a function that allows people with a similar interest to talk to each other on a shared wall. You can make the group private, and members have to be added by a current member or approved. Members receive notifications and/or emails when someone posts on the wall. Pages are open to everyone, the admin can post on the wall under the Page's name, and posts on the Page's wall will appear in the news feed on members' home pages.
For a business, a Page is the most appropriate choice. This is also good for movies, books, other products, and organizations.
How to Create a Business Page on Facebook
In order to create a Page, log in to your personal account. Click on the Home button near the upper right-hand corner of the Facebook screen. When the home page loads, you will see a list of choices on the left-hand side. There are three sections of options, the bottom of which is different types of applications, such as games. If you do not see Pages listed there, click on the More link at the bottom of the list of options. You should see Pages on the list. If you still don't see it, go to the top of the screen, click in Facebook's search box and type "pages " (with a space after it). Click on the option that says, "Facebook Pages". Alternatively, you can click here to go directly to the page.
This will bring you to a page that shows you all the Pages you like or administer. Near the upper right-hand corner, there is a button that says +Create Page. Click on that button. Next, you will see a page with six different options for types of businesses that can have Pages on Facebook. Click on the one that most closely resembles the type of Page you want to make. You will be asked to fill in the name you want to give the Page, as well as some other quick information. Fill that out, click on the box to accept the terms and conditions, and click the Get Started button.
Your page is instantly created. You will land on a Get Started tab, which will walk you through some of the steps to finish creating your Page. It is a good idea to wait to invite your friends until after the Page is complete. There is a button to Upload an Image that will appear in the upper left-hand corner, which you should do. Just above that, right below where it says the name of your page, there is a link that says Edit Info. This is where you can fill in information about your business, product, or organization. By clicking on the different options on the left-hand side, you can change settings, manage permissions, and find ways to market your Page. Back on the Page itself, you may see a box on the left side, below the picture, where you can put a quick blurb about the business (it does not appear for all types of pages). There is a little Edit button that will allow you to type something in that box. Since many people don't think to go to the Info tab of your page, that little box may be the only thing they see to know what kind of business you have.
Once you have everything ready, Look for the link on the right side of the page that says Suggest to Friends. Click on that and start inviting your friends to like your page. You can also post a link to the page on your Profile wall. You should start posting things on the Page wall right away to give people something to look at.
Creating a Facebook Page for your business, product, or organization is a quick and easy way to get free promotion and connect with your customers and prospects.
