KFC Grilled Chicken

I love fried chicken, but I also know it's horrible for me. I had high hopes when KFC came out with their new grilled chicken, although I was afraid it would be a disappointment compared to their other products. I was afraid it would be dry and flavorless, but I was pleasantly surprised by the taste and texture of the product.

KFC Grilled Chicken has Great Flavor

Despite KFC’s grilled chicken being a healthier alternative to their fried products, it still has the great flavor and falling-off-the bone tenderness that makes me want to reach for another piece.

KFC bastes each piece of chicken in butter and spices to give it good taste and a slightly crispy texture when grilled. This does add to the fat content compared to other preparations, but I didn't find it overly greasy or fatty. This crispy coating provides a really nice contrast to the tender chicken inside.

KFC Grilled Chicken Nutritional Information

KFC's Grilled Chicken is lower in fat and carbohydrates compared to their fried products. For example, an Original Recipe thigh and drumstick contain 26 grams of fat and eight grams of carbohydrates. The same pieces in Extra Crispy have 36 grams of fat and 18 carbs. By contrast, the Grilled has only 13 grams of fat and no carbs. For one breast piece, the Original Recipe chicken has 21 grams of fat and 7 carbs, a breast in Extra Crispy has 31 grams of fat and 17 carbs, and Grilled Chicken recipe has just 4 grams of fat and no carbs. While 13 grams of fat--not counting the side dishes--is high for one meal on some diets, we all need a treat once in a while, and this is not a particularly damaging one.

If you compare this chicken to a hamburger, a McDonald's Big Mac holds 29 grams of fat and 45 carbohydrates, and their McChicken sandwich has 16 grams of fat and 40 carbs. Even KFC's fried products beat out the Big Mac, but the Grilled Chicken wins by far. McDonald's Premium Grilled Chicken Classic Sandwich is lower in fat with just 10 grams, but the 51 carbs is extremely high.

While there are healthier meal choices for someone looking to lose weight, KFC Grilled Chicken is a better option than many fast food choices--as long as you “just say no” to the oh-so-yummy mashed potatoes, cole slaw and biscuit!
