My Fat Secret is a website dedicated to people who want to eat healthy and lose, gain or maintain weight. With a little help from my brother, I discovered this free website just before Thanksgiving. All things considered, I guess it was the perfect time.
After joining, you are invited to participate in a number of motivating and rewarding activities. First is the weight tracking. Your reward is the graph generated each time you record your weight. You can see your progress any time--especially helpful when you want to cheat.
A daily food diary is available. With more than 40, 000 foods already calculated for you, it's easy to enter the item and amount you ate and see it immediately appear on your page. Even better, you can enter food from your own kitchen, as long as you know the amount of each ingredient. Fat Secret will calculate the nutritional value for you. If you enter the recipe for a cake and identify an individual serving size, you will get the values based on that. You can decide to keep the information private or to share it with the community. A physical activity/exercise tally can be used in conjunction with your food intake. Calories expended will change with your weight and intensity level; they are already calculated for you--just enter the activity.
There are many groups; I joined one for diabetics that is helpful. The discussion forum is full of interesting strings to read and add to with your own comments. Many members join the "challenges." Lots of options are offered such as challenging yourself to lose a specific amount of weight in a specified time frame. Another popular challenge is populated with folks who intend to complete a marathon at some point.
I've lost several pounds since I joined and have found the membership to be friendly and supportive. One of the things I like the most about www.myfatsecret.com is that I can be as private or as public as I choose. I've submitted a few recipes to the community cookbook and have saved 54 to the recipe file provided to me by the site. I've tried seven and they were all delicious. There are some wonderful low-calorie, low-fat dessert options. Give this site a try. You may be as delighted with it as I am.
