Nokia 6102i

I have decided that it is about time to get a new cell phone, and perhaps a new cell phone service provider as well. It is not that I am unsatisfied with my Nokia 6102i, quite the contrary. This cell phone has served me well. Even though I have been carrying this cell phone for several years, it still came with nice features. The Nokia 6102i included an integrated VGA camera that captures images at 640 x 480 pixels, a video recorder and an integrated speaker phone. It also included mobile email, instant messaging (IM), bluetooth connectivity and standard ringtones.

Phones have gotten smarter since I activated my Nokia 6102i. I want to upgrade to a smartphone with my next cell phone. Smartphones have developed into small computing devices with features such as touch screens, video calling, Wi-Fi connectivity and better camera resolution. Smartphones can even contain a GPS. Now when someone gets lost there is no need to call for directions, a smartphone can provide step-by-step directions.

Apps are almost as important as the cell phone itself. Apps, or application software, allow users to perform useful functions. App examples include searching for a movie or restaurant, downloading books and music, social networking, and playing games. The list of apps is in the hundreds of thousands and growing. Operating systems such as Android and Apple have their own app website or marketplace.

Blackberry smartphones are popular. A Blackberry functions as a personal digital assistant and is great for maintaining business and social networks. It has apps for facebook, twitter and myspace, as well as mobile email and instant messaging capabilities. A Blackberry can also be used as a portable media player for music and video playback with camera and video recording capabilities. Blackberry uses the RIM operating system.

A Samsung Nexus S smartphone uses Google’s Android operating system. Android apps can be found at the ‘Android Market’ website. The Samsung Nexus S features a touch screen with a four inch display. The shape is designed with a contour, giving it an ergonomic appeal. The Samsung Nexus S is equipped with a 5 megapixel rear facing camera and camcorder. It also is equipped with a VGA front facing camera.

The Apple iPhone 4 has been developed for video calling. The Apple iPhone 4 has two cameras for video calling, one on the front and one on the back. The front phone focuses on the user, while the back focuses on everything else. The user can switch between the two cameras at any time during a video call using a feature called FaceTime. The Apple iPhone 4 includes HD video recording and a 5 megapixel camera. Apple iPhone uses the iOS operating system and is primarily controlled with touch screen activity.

Nokia also makes a great smartphone from its N series. The Nokia N8 uses the Symbian operating system and is the first Nokia camera phone to integrate a 12 megapixel camera. The Nokia N8 has a 3.5 inch touch screen, HDMI out, USB on-the-go and Wi-Fi. This smartphone also features a Pentaband 3.5G radio and is encased in an aluminum shell.

Personal digital assistants, ergonomic designs, video calling and 12 megapixel cameras. Smartphones have great features and hundreds of thousands of apps. I want to make sure that I select the right smartphone for me. This is going to be a hard choice.
