I love reality television shows. I just love the drama and real life aspect to it. I realize, of course, that certain scenes may be contrived and that there is always a camera crew behind the scenes to be taken into consideration, but, for me, reality shows are the highest form of entertainment.
One of my favorite reality shows is So You Think You Can Dance. I love it because it crosses many cultural backgrounds and brings in talented dancers from across the country. It is actually shocking to see how many hopefuls turn up for auditions for their chance on the stage. Some are extremely talented, some are somewhat talented, and some are downright awful. The auditions segment of the show will often make you laugh. It is a testament to the level of confidence even very untalented people can have.
The producer of the show, Nigel Lythgoe, is a former dancer and sits on the panel of judges. He gives honest critique without trying to discourage young dancers with promise.
Cat Deeley is the host of the show and is both beautiful and sweet. She wears a beautiful fashion ensemble every week which I am sure her fans look forward to seeing with anticipation. Every week brings a new look.
The best part is the dance. Young people with amazing athletic ability combine the grace and passion of their love of dance to bring inspiring and artful skill to the stage.
I enjoy seeing the different styles and understand the struggle the dancers must have to adjust their personal styles in order to master new styles weekly. If they don't "bring it", then they'll be voted off. These dancers work so hard. It is a test of endurance, stamina, and spirit.
I always look forward to watching the show every week and I appreciate the effort that goes into bringing it every season.
