Trader Joe's sells a lot of tasty frozen foods in several ethnic varieties. I recently tried their Chicken Satay Party Skewers, and I was pleased to find that they lived up to the reputation this store enjoys: they are delicious, convenient and of high quality.
A package of Trader Joe's Chicken Satay Party Skewers comes with 12 pieces for $3.99. I would probably find a more economical way to prepare these for a party, but for a snack for two of us at home, it was perfect. It was also convenient--although you can heat them in a sauté pan in a little oil for three to four minutes, they warm up well in the microwave in two to three minutes. All you have to do is slip the cardboard cover off, poke a few holes in the plastic film covering the chicken, and put it in the microwave.
The flavor of this product is very good, with a nice balance of mild spices. While it may not stack up to what you get in a good restaurant, for the price it is a tasty product with a fairly authentic flavor. It came out of the microwave slightly rubbery, but this may be because I had to cook it a little longer than recommended on the package because of my low-wattage microwave.
One package of 12 Trader Joe's Chicken Satay Party Skewers contains two 99 gram servings, each of which has 7 grams of fat, 105 milligrams of cholesterol, 390 milligrams of Sodium, 8 grams of Carbohydrates (5 of which is sugar), and 23 grams of protein. As such, they are fairly healthy, although there are probably healthier recipes out there. These are made with boneless, skinless thigh meat, sugar, spices and fish sauce.
Trader Joe's Chicken Satay Party Skewers are a tasty and convenient snack that are also nutritious.
