I purcahsed the 1999 Toyota Solara SLE because of its sportiness as well as its features. Designed to be a sporty version of the popular Toyota Camry, 1999 was the first year the model was released and I took a chance on buying it.
I got every option avaiable on the car including a gold package, leather a V-6 engine, JBL audio system and power moon roof.
Unfortunately, this car has been nothing but problems for me. I have spent many thousands of dollars on repairs including a timing belt at 50, 000 miles, a starter at 40, 000 miles and many other smaller repairs that have added up.
I take great care of my cars and this has been no exception, but the car seems to be flawed in its design. The performace of the car when operating properly is fine. A pretty smooth, averaged powered V-6 engine created a nice ride.
I liked the interior of the car with the leather seats and premium audio system. The thing I dislike most about this car, besides the costly repair is the two door design. I know this is standard with a sportier car, but with a full sized car, the door doors act as a big annoyance. It's almost as the huge back seat area is wasted because it is a pain to get back there.
I would not recommend the Toyota Solara. It has been a lemon for me and has cost me way too much money in repairs.
