Alright, over the summer of 2008, I was redoing my bedroom. I had been buying all white furniture, and most of it had been selected. Except for the TV stand. First, there aren't many white TV stands, and I needed one that could hold my TV. I have yet to upgrade to a flatscreen, so I still have a tube TV. Also, I had to pay for the furniture myself, so I was on a pretty tight budget.
At first, I did a lot of browsing online. Then, I saw a couple other things I wanted at Ikea, so we decided to drive for an hour and a half to get to our closest store. While there, I saw a TV stand that was beautiful, so we had them get it for us. When we got downstairs, we went to go get the paper thing that said we were paying for it. I noticed a problem. The paper said the stand was $30 more than the one upstairs. My mom went to talk to the Ikea guy about it, and he said that was it. So, we purchased it. Upon getting it home, we found out that it was actually a different TV stand. They looked the same, but the one I had wanted had shelves behind doors, while the one we got had drawers. Irritated, we put it together anyways because we had already started and couldn't take it back. Upon putting it in my room across from my bed we found another problem. When laying in the bed, you could see about half of the screen on the TV.
So, I started trying to get more money and find a TV stand.
After about an hour searching google, I found the Ameriwood Altra High Boy TV Stand in White. Truthfully, I knew then that it was perfect. Except for the price. I didn't have that much money! However, a few days later, my grades came. My parents pay me for good grades, so after recieving that I did have enough.
The TV stand is quite tall, 36 inches I believe? It has an open compartment just under the TV where I put my DirectTV box, and under that there are three shelves behind glass doors. In the first shelf I put my PS2, and I have yet to find something to put in the other two. Putting it together was challenging, mine is actually slightly crooked because my assembly guy (my dad) had trouble, it's not very noticable however. With my newer stand, you could easily see the TV from bed, and the remote could see the DirectTV box.
I think this TV stand was perfect for me. However, I'm still pretty mad at those Ikea employees.
