We did a lot of research on LCD TVs before buying this 40" SONY KDL 40V2500 TV. We were originally going to go with a Samsung TV but after multiple trips to various brick and mortar stores to compare the picture quality, we knew we had to have a SONY. While Samsung also has a great picture quality, we could definitely notice a higher quality picture on the SONY. We made the decision to pay a bit more for the SONY quality that we wanted instead of the Samsung prices which are generally lower than SONY. We were happily suprised to buy our SONY from Circuit City on the weekend after Thanksgiving when we noticed that they were selling it for an unadvertised price of $1200! This made it a deal we could not pass up! In addition, we also applied a 10% off coupon which we had saved from our recent moving in mailers from the USPS. The TV is commonly on sale for no lower than $1400 and the regular price is $1800. The viewing angle is very generous - we have our sofas set up in a semi-circle around the TV and every seat is a good one. The sound on the TV is nothing special so we opted to go with a home theater sound system. One concern we had with buying a High Definition TV is how well it could handle standard definition. We had noticed some High Definition models that looked beautiful with HD content but demonstrated high amounts of pixelization for standard definition. Since the majority of our TV viewing is going to be standard definition for now (holding off on the expense of going all high def) but we also wanted the TV to have the ability to handle high def when we decide to spend the money later on. I'm happy to report that this TV is great for standard def as well as high def. There is little to no pixelization on standard definition channels or DVDs. We have been very happy with the TV so far and anticipate many years of enjoying it with our children!
