My husband and I have been wanting to invest in solar energy. However, we don't have very much money, so we decided to take it slow. Just before Christmas of 2008, we went to Lowe's and purchased a set of Malibu 6-1/2" Solar LED Flood Landscape Lights. This light set comes with a small solar panel, three LED flood lights, cables and rechargeable batteries.
My husband reported that the light set was easy to install. It came with the screws we needed to mount the lights and solar panel on a wooden surface. We decided to put the lights on the back of the house by our small patio, since this was an area where there could be potential intrusions by robbers. The light set came with tremendous amounts of wire which we didn't really need. My husband bunched it and tied it underneath the eave that protects the patio.
I love these landscape floodlights, because they're practically maintenance-free. Once you install them, they cost nothing to run. They turn on automatically when the sun goes down, and turn off automatically when it comes up again in the morning. One of the lights even shines into our living room at night. We feel safer and more secure with these lights installed behind our home. The floodlights are not tremendously bright. They give off a soft blue light, like most LED lights. However, this is quite sufficient for our needs.
I highly recommend these flood lights. They are very inexpensive for the benefits they provide. You can buy them one pack at a time and install them individually, rather than paying a high price for an expensive solar system that must be installed all at once. I plan to purchase more of these lights to install at the front of the house.
