I have had this fan (or air circulator) for about seven years. It is very powerful and relatively quiet.
I use it to cool the house. I use it to improve air circulation when painting or using noxious chemicals. I use it to dry the rug when something spills. I use it to get the Chi moving.
It has a variable infinite speed control. This is somewhat equivalent to the band Spinal Tap's amplifiers (which go to 11 instead of 10). Its 112 watt motor and custom focused grill design will propel a beam of air up to 80 feet.
I typically position my Vornado on the floor, but it is also small enough to put on a table. It is a very good general purpose fan. The fan blade is nine inches across, and the diameter of the housing is about 14 inches. The unit weighs about 9.5 pounds. It stands about 17 inches high.
I previously had a Patton Air Mover with a wire frame blade protector. It was powerful and worked well, however the wire frame oxidized and looked dirty after a couple of years. My Vornado can be wiped off with a slightly damp cloth, and it looks completely new. Also, the Vornado has a removable grill which facilitates cleaning.
The Vornado 280SS has a Lifetime warranty.
I am very happy with my Vornado 280SS Air Circulator Fan.
