A Child Called "It" is a book that tells (in vivid detail) the emotional and physical punishment that Dave Pelzer experienced as a child. It is extremely detailed and to the point. Dave Pelzer starts by describing his family and how wonderful everything seemed, also how much he loved his mother. As the book goes on, you see how his mother begins to change and how her perfectionist, obsessive-compulsive behavior that once made her family happy begins to become mean and cruel. She stops seeing her son David as a child and just describes him as an "it".
The child is put through years of punishments that obviously show that his mother was emotionally and mentally sick and extremely disturbed.
This book takes you through a myriad of emotions running from complete disbelief, wondering how someone could do those things to a child, but also how in the world a child could have possibly survived and lived to tell about it. It truly makes you appreciate every good thing you have in your life. I think everyone should take time to read this book.
