This was a blind buy for me. Although I never saw this show the first time around, I was a fan of the Nancy Drew series of books when I was growing up. There are 22 hour long episodes in the set, including some where the three young detectives work together to solve a crime. The Hardy Boys are played by (teen idol) Shawn Cassidy and Parker Stevenson, and Nancy is played by Pamela Sue Martin and later, by Janet Louise Johnson.

The dialogue is sometimes cheesy, but the overall plots are similar to those found in the book series--heavy on action and reasonably complex. The lead actors are earnest, if a bit flat in their delivery at times. The series had surprisingly high production values because many of the episodes involve travel to faraway lands. As a fan of seventies television, it's fun to see how many of the guest stars I can recognize from other series such as The Brady Bunch, Dark Shadows, and Charlie's Angels.

The set contains five discs. These tend to come loose because discs 2 and 3, and discs 4 and 5 are "stacked" on top of each other. I worry that they will become scratched, and in fact, disc two froze on me the first time it was played.

I bought my set at a steep discount, and unless you are a huge fan, it's probably not worth the retail price of approximately $50. If you can find it on sale, however, it's a fun series to add to your TV on DVD collection.
