I know few people who haven't wanted to meet characters from stories in real life, especially when they were children. But what if you could not control what characters came to life? Mo and Meggie, a father and daughter, have the ability to read characters and items from stories into our world. The twist is, every time one is read in, something from our world goes back to replace it. When this "gift" gets out of control, the fate of our world is in perilous danger.
The characters are many and varied and there are constant surprises and twists to keep the reader interested. It is easy to place oneself in the shoes of Meggie and Mo. While the length and subject matter may prevent younger children from picking the book up on their own, it is a good read-aloud book or a challenge. I think any age could quickly get enraptured in the story and want to go on to read every book in the series. I know my students certainly did!
