Cabela's Mesh Fishing Vest

This Cabela's Three Forks II Vest is a medium priced mesh fishing vest that has most of the features and quality of the very expensive ones. This was a gift after I admired, and field tested a friend's similar vest last season.

This vest is designed for fly fishing and has 30 pockets (14 front, 12 inside, 4 on the back). Two of the pockets on the back are for reels, but since I usually carry my rod assembled, I probably won't use them for this purpose. The vest is very comfortable and lightweight. Its design distributes the weight of its cargo comfortably across the back and neck.

The mesh on the front of the vest allows good air circulation and helps keep you cool when standing in the sun. The vest is made of cotton and polyester, and is machine washable. It comes in two colors (Sahara/tan & Grouse/light brown) and 8 sizes from Small to 5XL. Mine is a Medium so that I can comfortably wear it over a sweater or windbreaker.

Though I have not used my new vest in the field yet, I have confirmed that it has a good place for all of the typical gear that I would carry:

Pocket camera in a Ziploc® bag (inside right zippered pocket)

ChapStick® (inside right small Velcro closure pocket)

Fishing License (inside left medium sized zippered pocket)

Flies (a few on a fly patch above right D-ring)

Fly Box (in the large front pockets)

Leaders (chest pockets)

Line nippers (on Zinger attached to left front D-ring)

Lunch or energy bars (back cargo pocket)

Forceps (attached to right front D-ring)

Net (hooks to D-ring on back or under left arm)

Hat (rear cargo pocket)

Hook sharpener (tied to one of the low front zipper pulls)

Insect repellent (one of the inside front zippered pockets)

Polarized Sunglasses (Velcro tab on left chest)

Safety pin (hooked to a zipper pull)

Snake bite kit (inside left small Velcro closure pocket)

Sunscreen (in reel pocket on back)

Tippet (custom tippet holder on vest)

Water (small bottle in one of large front pockets, since I usually just carry one fly box)

Whistle (inside right small Velcro closure pocket)

The regular price on this vest is $59 to $69 depending on size. Sometimes, certain sizes go on sale (I recently saw the 4XL and 5XL with a Sale Price of $29.88). Regular shipping is about $9, or you can pick it up at about 30 Cabela's stores in the US and Canada.

If you are ever near a Cabela's store, be sure to stop and visit – they have great display aquariums, animal displays, and very helpful salespeople.

Cabela's Three Forks II Vest is a good selection if you want comfort and a lot of pocket capacity.
