I bought a Little Giant Mega Lite M17 Type 1A Multi-use ladder a few months ago at Costco. I have wanted one for years because every time I needed an extension ladder I needed to borrow one from a friend or neighbor.
Although a Little Giant is much easier to store than a normal ladder, I did not like it using up floor space in my garage. I looked at a variety of options at Lowes, Home Depot, and Ace Hardware. Normal ladder hooks or J hooks which screw into the studs did not really fit the size of the ladder (I returned two different types). Using generic ladder hooks it was only possible to hang the ladder horizontally (which was not pleasing to the eye), but not vertically if you wanted to secure the bracket into the wooden studs.
I finally decided to bite the bullet and buy the custom Little Giant storage rack. Although it was one of the most expensive alternatives, it stores the ladder upright and is designed to screw into 16 inch centered studs (which are the standard in the US).
The design of the Ladder Rack is quite simple. It is really a heavy duty mounting plate with a hard plastic cowling over most of the part which attaches to the wall. All of the metal surfaces have a quality powder coating which I expect will completely resist rusting. The rack will accommodate ladders up to 75 lbs, meaning most of the Little Giants shorter than 24 feet (check the compatibility chart on the website).
There are no moving parts on the Ladder Rack, it simply fits the ladder perfectly, looks good, and places the weight of ladder on the strongest part of the wall.
I am very happy with my Little Giant Ladder Rack.
