Most laptops on the market have a lot in common, but the Apple Macbook Pro was in a class of its own. To start with, Apple set out to reinvent and reconstruct their computer, its technology and design, rather than most manufacturers who will take parts from older model computers to tweak them and mix with newer parts to create new computers. Apple also set out to create a stylish, sleek and thin, yet strong and durable laptop, unlike HP, Toshiba, and other manufacturers, who have a minimum size, and a priority of "either" style or durability. Simply stated, Apple took these ALL into account. Instead of connecting multiple pieces to build a laptop, they carved an enclosure from a single aluminum body, called the unibody design, and rather than a latch, like most other laptop lids, they carved a thumbscoop, sized just perfectly, for ease of opening the notebook. Not only has Apple put a 7-hour battery in the Book, but they incorporated the outstanding 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9400M and 512 MB GeForce 9600M GT graphics processors to help the Macbook conserve battery power without compromising performance and brilliance. Apple also integrated energy efficient software to reduce the hard drive speed in idle and standby, dim the lights, and determine if the task at hand is suitable for the processor, all in a bid to construct an Energy Star 5.0 compliant laptop. Apple designed the Macbook to make the most efficient use of a 2.53 GHz-2.66 GHz Intel Core duo processor with 3 MB of Cache, or a 2.88 GHz-3.06 GHz with 3 MB of Cache, all with minimum 4 GB of DIMM memory and a max of 8 GB of Memory. Instead of the CCFL's (cold cathode fluorescent lamps) in most laptop screens, Apple used the famous LED backlight found in most handhelds and cellphones in order to reduce the thickness of the screen and minimze brightening time and power consumption. Apple also eliminated Polyvinyl chlorides (PVC) brominated flame retardants (BFL), mercury, and arsenic throughout the Macbook. Apple also had typing in the dark in mind when they constructed a backlight for the keyboard, which HP, Toshiba, and the rest never think about. HP and Toshiba never thought about the single unit trackpad without separate buttons, but Apple did. They designed the trackpad to function as BOTH a touchpad and the two click buttons, as well as to recognize MultiTouch gestures such as swipe, 4 finger swipe, pinch, and rotate. Apple also designed the macbook to use their best operating system, Mac OS X. Despite the Cost, the Macbook always gives the most for the money you pay. Hands down, the only computer that can "out excel" a mac is.... ANOTHER MAC
