I have just finished my first book by Beth Groundwater entitled A Real Basket Case.

In this novel, Claire Hanover has a gift basket business and is married to Roger, who pays more attention to his career than he does to her. Claire is feeling lonely and actually considering having an affair with Enrique, an instructor at the local health club. Enrique is a lady's man and would be only too happy to accommodate Claire. When Claire invites Enrique to her house so that he can give her a massage, she is totally unprepared for what ensues. Enrique is shot and killed in the middle of giving Claire her massage, and Claire's husband, Roger, is there with the murder weapon in his hand. Claire still loves her husband and must now do her own investigating to try and clear her husband's name, as she believes him when he tells her he did not shoot and kill Enrique.

This story was not as lighthearted as a lot of the mysteries I have been reading of late. It had a deeper storyline, and I enjoyed reading about Claire's quest to clear her husband, as well as her efforts to mend her broken marriage.

I'm going to check the author's website to see what else she has written. This novel was interesting and delved somewhat into the workings of the human psyche and what emotions can drive a person to do.
