Even before my mom took all her falls last year, she had fallen out of her bed several times. It was a miracle that those falls did not injure her. So when she returned home, it was important that she have a bed-rail. The dilemma was that if the bed-rail was too long, she could not get out of the bed easily, and that became a hindrance and a danger.
After browsing the Internet, I found this wonderful small bed-rail that solved all the problems! It was long enough to keep her in the bed, but short enough to allow her to get out easily. It can also be used as an aid to sit up in bed, and to get into the bed. In fact, my mom also used it as a support, when she was standing by the bed, talking on the phone, or changing clothes. The hand-rail height is also adjustable, and it has a cushioned grip. So it has turned out to be a great multi-tasker for sure.
It is quickly installed by sliding the attached bar all the way under the mattress, (between the box springs and mattress) and then connecting the retention strap on the other side of the bed, as an added safety precaution. The rail can be removed when changing the sheets, if desired (though it is not necessary.) It is not at all unsightly; in fact I think it is quite attractive. The handle-rail needs to be pushed all the way in under the mattress, before using. It is very sturdy and strong, and comes with a one year warranty.
This was an excellent solution for us, and I recommend it highly for adults who require greater safety precautions, due to injury or feebleness.
