The Big Apple AKA The City That Never Sleeps AKA New York City!!! One of my all time favorite places to visit is New York City. It has so much to offer and you can never finish it all in one trip. I am never bored when I am in New York.
My family is from New York so I am able to visit there whenever I want and I don't need to worry about getting a hotel room, which is definitely a plus! My friends live in the city also. My family lives on Long Island, and it's about an hour commute to the city on the Long Island Rail Road. It was about $16 round trip during non peak hours and about $22 round trip during peak hours. It's not that bad of a train ride at all, nothing like the subway. It's a nice ride and let's you off in the middle of the city.
New York City has 5 boroughs (The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island). The one that most people visit when they are visiting NYC is Manhattan. Manhattan is beautiful. There is so much to visit there; Central Park, Empire State Building, Times Square, United Nations, Battery Park, Washington Square, Tribeca, etc...
NYC is great for shopping. There are several people selling items on the streets. The items are great gifts. I bought a scarf for myself as a gift in Brooklyn off the streets, which I wore the entire trip. Another good shopping place where many females like to go is Canal St which is in China Town. This is the place where people can buy all those lovely purses and wallets at such a great deal.
My favorite place in NYC is Brooklyn. It is a very nice area and makes me feel very welcome. It is filled with alot more of residential areas than Manhattan where there are several business buildings. Alot of the residential buildings in Brooklyn are brownstones, which I would love to live in one day. The streets are not even close to as crowded as in Manhattan. In Manhattan, there are times were you are bumping into people just to walk down the street, but I love that craziness.
The Bronx is home of the Yankee Stadium. This is actually the last year the Yankees will be playing in that stadium, but it is definitely a place you should check out while there. NYC has several churches where the architecture is just incredible, One of the largest cathedrals in the world is located in NYC. It's the Cathedral of St. John The Divine and it is an incredible sight. St. Patrick's Cathedral is also an amazing site.
There are tons of other places to visit in NYC. I will just list a few, I could go on for about a million more words if I described them. South Street Seaport, Rockerfeller Center, NBC Studios, The Top Of The Rocks, Statue Of Liberty, Flatiron Building, American Museum Of Natural History, The Metropolitan Museum Of Art, Museum Of Modern Art, Guggenheim Museum, Ellis Island, Harlem, Broadway, World Trace Center Memorial, Strawberry Fields & Dakotas, Chelsea Hotel, the Palace Hotel, Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, Macy's, Saks, and Tiffany & Co. There are probably so many things I'm missing but there's just that much to do and see in NYC. It is definitely one of those destinations, you can visit more than once and not get bored.
