Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War was the next title released in the Ace Combat series and shared much of its game play tendencies with the previous installment. The biggest addition is the ability to control your wingmen in how they engage combat. You can send them to do their own thing, tell them to all attack the same target or have them escort you while you do all of the dirty work.
Many of the mission styles remain the same, but there is an even heavier emphasis on the characters and story, whereas we only knew the call sign of the previous game’s hero. The wingman control sometimes doesn’t appear to be do much, especially when they’re told to disperse. However, when asking them to defend you or all attack the same target, a little patience can bring out great results.
Ace Combat 5 is arguably the greatest game in the series as it offers everything fans expected and then a bit more.
