The X223W on first glance looks a lot sleeker than the older AL series of monitors. Acer have done away with the brushed metal look and gone for a darker design. The first thing we noticed once hooked up was a dead pixel on the bottom corner of the screen. Even at the monitor's native resolution of 1600 x 1050 it was noticible. Acer Australia's policy on dead pixels is to replace the screen if there are more than 4 dead pixels per million pixels.
Besides the defect out of the box, the X223W performs well. The image is very crisp and clear with minimal light leakage around the edges. As with most modern displays there was no ghosting or smearing of image with high motion video.
Overall the X223W is a great monitor for the price. Highly recommended for those on a budget.
