I can't afford a game system with Brain Age but I think I've found the next best thing for under $12.00.

I believe exercising my brain is vital to staying young and on my "A" game for work. That's why I downloaded Advanced Brain Trainer for two different PDAs (Sony Clie and Palm TX). This is more than a game but truly helps keep you thinking quickly, logically and focused.

There are five different modules: Speed Count (Simple Math), Drawing Over (Shape and color match), Parking Check (counting cars), Color Algebra (Math & Memory), and Four Aces (Memory & Logic). Each module is judged by accuracy and speed. Your progress is recorded and you can watch your improvment and/or slumps.

Once you've reached a certain level you are "rewarded" by an arcade version of the modules adding to the element of fun. My favorite module is the Drawing Over mostly because it's the one I'm best at.

Because my job as department manager required that my math is up to par I used this software to practice the simpler math and I actually saw a great improvement. In fact when it came time to take a retail math test for a promotion I got something I've NEVER gotten on a math test - a 100%!

Advanced Brain Trainer is available for all PDAs using Palm OS and is very affordable.

The only annoying part is the "trainers" who chide you for low scores and if you miss a day of training. I try to find just 5 minutes a day to play one or two modules and I feel I've actually made progress and my scores have improved.

This is a great addition to mindless games like solitaire with permanent benefits.
