Last Christmas, my family decided to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city at Gold Coast which is famous for its theme parks and sandy beaches. As it was a tour package, our flight was fixed. It was a direct eight hours flight by Air Asia, a low-cost airline.
The service was pretty good. The flight attendants were friendly, pleasant and helpful. There was food on-board (only if you have paid beforehand) and the Asian food which I had was quite nice.
However, I definitely would not recommend this airline for long distance flight as it was very cramp and there was not much leg space. The chairs could only recline very little (like about 10 to 20 degrees). As it was a night flight, I had difficulties sleeping and ended up sleeping about 1 or 2 hours only. There were even passengers who slept outside the toilet on the floor as their seats were too uncomfortable for sleeping! There is no entertainment on-board (unless paid) and even so, no earphones are provided if you watch a show. The only on-board entertainment I had on-board was chatting with random strangers on a chat application they had in their system.
Other than that, the flight was pretty much smooth. If you are on a tight budget and can bear with the low comfort level, then this flight is a good choice. Otherwise, choose a business class flight.
