This is the first in the popular series of movies about Air Bud. This movie is rated PG and is 98 minutes long. The movie introduces the main character, Josh Framm. He has moved to a new town and feels alone. He loves basketball, but he's too shy to try out for the team. While practicing on his own, he meets a dog that, shockingly, knows how to play basketball. He can make the ball go in the basket EVERY time!! Buddy (as Josh calls him) has no collar so he becomes Josh's dog. They end up both making the basketball team. As you can imagine a dog on a basketball team gets a large amount of media coverage. Buddy's former owner spots him on TV and decided to claim him again. However, thanks to Josh and Buddy's ingenius plans, they are able to avoid the awful owner and lead the school to the state finals. This is a great movie, and I recommend adding this entire series to your collection. It is a great movie that your child will want to watch over and over again, and you'll enjoy it yourself each time. It has a nice family plot that everyone enjoys.
My daughter was very young when she was given this movie, and I thought she would never be interested as it was not animated, but boy was I wrong. This is such a great movie, we ended up watching it over and over until we could almost recite the lines with the actors. This movie would be great for every age - it kept my daughter engaged for the entire 98 minutes from the time she was 3 or 4. The fact that a dog can actually play basketball (and do it so great) really amazed her. As a parent, it was a relief to get a break from the cartoons and watch a "real movie."
