If you have read any of my reviews in the past, you may already know that my dog has food allergies. I suspect that he also has some environmental allergies or at least sensitivities that give him itchy skin. Because of his itchy skin it is important that he not only have a good diet free of allergens or triggers, but that his dog shampoo is hypoallergenic, contains all natural ingredients, is soap free and contains ingredients that are soothing or healing to the skin.

You also may know that I am a big fan of aloe vera and it’s healing properties. If so, it probably would not surprise you that while shopping for a well formulated dog shampoo that I reached for one with aloe vera and tea tree oil.

Earthbath has an aloe vera and tea tree formula with all of the things that I look for. It is all natural, hypoallergenic, ph balanced, cruelty free and even biodegradable!

From the first bath I knew right away that earthbath is as advertised. I used very little of the shampoo so as to not leave any behind when rinsing. I also used a bath brush by JW (listed in one of my other reviews) to ensure a good even sudsing of his coat and body. The brush also helped to ensure that the shampoo got in through his hair to his skin, for a thorough wash.

While his fur does not come out nice and soft as it did with a previous shampoo that I used, his skin was not irritated or itchy after his bath. The shampoo seems to sooth him as if he is overly itchy a bath will immediately and substantially lessen his symptoms. Because of how well the shampoo works for his skin I am not really concerned with the roughness of his fir. His coat is short so I do not really feel that I need a conditioner. While I may try a conditioner in the future just to see if it improves his coat texture, I am also not in a hurry to do so as I do not want to risk skin irritation by using too many products.

My dog also has a coat that is mostly white. While this particular type of earthbath is not specifically for a white coat it does do a nice job of cleansing his fir. His coat looks very clean and vibrant after a washing.

Overall I am very happy with the ingredients of this brand of dog shampoo. In the future, however, I think that I will try another formula of the same brand… perhaps the eucalyptus/peppermint blend?
