This is a review on one of my moms oldest appliances that she still uses. The Black and Decker skillet is older than my brother and myself! Yet still works like brand new! Im not entirely sure how old this skillet actually is, but my mom estimates it to be between 35 to 40 years old! I remember her making yummy smelling sheppards pie or homemeade hamburgers, stir frys and other homecooked meals in this appliance. It brings back so many homely memories when i would come home from school and smell the aromas of hearty meals cooking in that skillet, and seeing it sitting on the kitchen counter, throwing my book bag on the floor and poking into the hot skillet to 'test' the chicken or whatever was cooking in there that evening before lying on the floor watching my favorite after school tv shows!
There was not a thing my mom hasnt made in that skillet. ALL kinds of meats, vegetables, kabobs, stirfry's and different cassaroles. She used the skillet more than she did the oven or stove, it was and is and always will be her favorite appliance.
The skillet doesn't take up much room on the counter, is easy to clean by hand if using cooking oil or spray like Pam. The temperature control goes from warm if the meal is cooked and you just want to keep it warm without the food going dry or burning until everyone is home from work or school to sit down and eat. And goes up to high setting if you want to cook the food in the least amount of time. I dont ever remember my mom burning anything on this setting.
After all these years and constant use, this skillet is still going strong, and with the original outlet cord and temp. control, not one thing has ever had to be replaced or fixed, not even the knob ontop of the lid has come loose!
I think if you need to get a wedding gift, this would be perfect!
