When my family asked me what I wanted for Christmas I told them I needed new socks. What I was looking for were athletic type socks you wear with shoes and sneakers but what they ended up giving me was several pairs of hydrating aloe infused socks instead.
Aloe infused socks were never something I would have purchased for myself even though my feet need some serious help and I was skeptical that a pair of socks alone would do anything for me. Let me begin by saying theses are the softest, most comfortable socks I have ever worn and I wear socks all day around the house. They are made of 97% nylon and 3% spandex. They are soft, fuzzy, come up and over your ankle and stay in place without slipping down. Since they are infused with Aloe and vitamin E they are supposed to moisturize your feet as you are wearing them without adding any additional creams or lotions. The packaging though comes with very little information on how exactly this is suppose to work. So do they actually work? Well, lets just say that I hope they have helped my feet but they are so dry and rough from the long winter we have had that it is impossibly to tell for sure.
OK, now for the bad news about them. Use extreme caution while wearing these socks if you have tile or hardwood floors. They are slick and slippery and you will slide because there is no nonskid surface or rubber dots on the bottom of them for traction. When I wear them I do my Tom Cruise in Risky Business slide across our hardwoods for exercise and fun. Grandma though might not be as amused if she wearing them and slips and slides across her floor.
The second problem with these socks is be very careful what you wash them with. The manufacturer recommends machine washing them in cold water on the gentle cycle and then tumble dry on low which is what I do but they shed horrible and leave lint on whatever is in the wash with them. I can only wash them with light colors or towels because I am tired of having to wash the darks a second time to get all the lint off. As an added bonus you will also find little lint balls between your toes when you take them off after wearing them for a long period of time.
To sum it up, these aloe infused hydrating therapy socks are comfortable, warm and cozy. They are not something I would have purchased myself but on a cold night, they sure feel good to have on and if they are helping heal my feet at the same time then that's even better.
