We received this Yard Machine snow blower from my husband's brother as he had health problems and decided to hire a service to do his drive. It was only used for a couple of winters and we've had it for the last 5 years.
Living in Michigan we get lots of snow living close to the lakeshore. We seem to get dumped on all the time and since our snow blower had died the year before we had been on the lookout for a new one. I'll take one as a gift anytime!!
This is a Yard Machine by MTD and was originally purchased from Home Depot. My husband loves this machine and it starts up faithfully each winter with no problems, the most recent being this week.
Some of the great features of this snow blower are:
**It's a heavy duty snow blower with a 5HP Tecumseh 4-cycle engine, cold start
**It has a 22" wide scoop which is great for doing our front walk
**It is 2 stage, self propelled with a 12" impeller
**5 forward and 2 reverse speeds
**The chute is quick adjusting with 190 degree rotation and throws snow for a distance of 15 to 20 feet
**Easily clears snow depths of 6 to 12 inches or more
This snow blower is designed for clearing large areas of snow and my husband is out there and actually seems to enjoy this job. He and the neighbor across the street also clear out the street area in front of our homes so that when the city snow plows come along we don't get that huge pile of heavy snow at the end of the driveway.
I would say the snow blower is loud but I don't ever remember hearing one that isn't. Over the years we've lost 2 wheel locks which were easily replaced with a trip to Home Depot. We will definitely buy another Yard Machine when the time comes but we're hoping to move to a warm place before that happens!!
Update On Mar 01, 2010: We've had a lot of snow over the past 3 months and this snow blower started up effortlessly each time it was needed. I've posted a couple of new pictures of hubby out in one of our worst snowstorms in December using the snow blower to clear our driveway.
