This was the first Anne Rice book I picked out and due to it, it was not the last. When I picked this book up I did not know what to expect, but in the end I was quite happy with my choice.

The story of this book is about a young man who's family is changed forever by vampires. He burns for revenge and begins his journey to avenge his family. The chapters are full of twists and keep you on the edge of your seat, wondering what will happen next. To this day, this book has one of the best endings I have ever read.

This book begins on kind of a gruesome note, but draws you in instantly. The setting is Italy, from a lavish castle to a small village and many other beautifully described places. The characters are beautifully developed, each one with their pros and flaws. The book is a bit on the mature side with descriptive gore, some sexuality, and (duh!) vampires. If that doesn't bother you, I suggest this for a good read.
