The Archos 43 Internet Tablet is probably the smallest internet tablet ever. Tablets are usually big at around 7 inch to 10 inch in size. The Archos 43 Internet Tablet is only 4.3 inch in screen size making it the smallest tablet. The Archos 43 Internet Tablet (I'm now going to call it IT for short), is considered as a tablet because of the specifications and the fact that it can be used to surf the internet.
The Archos 43 has a 4.3 inch resistive screen. It comes with a back camera, which allows you to capture video and pictures. Sound recording is also an option on the Archos 43 IT as it does come with a built-in microphone. It comes with two built-in speakers (one at each side) allowing you to watch videos and listen to music without earbuds. However, the product also comes with ear buds so it is possible to use earbuds as well. The Archos 43 IT has an internal storage of 16 GB using a hard disk drive. The Archos 43 IT runs on Android 2.0, but it is upgradable to 3.0.
To start off with, the Archos 43 IT has a decent internet browsing experience. Due to the small screen, a lot of zooming in and out is required. Since the Archos does not have a capacitive screen, features such as pinch zooming (pinching) is not an option. This also means that multi-touch is also not supported on the Archos 43 IT. This leads to some game limitations and some application restrictions. The Archos 43 IT comes with an integrated wireless N adapter so it uses wireless internet. The speed is actually pretty fast. I don't have any complaints with the speed. The benefit of getting the Archos 43 IT is that it has flash support. This means that I can watch videos from YouTube, but also on other sites such as Jokeroo, Facebook, and more.
The camera is what I am going to review next. The camera quality is actually pretty good. It can capture in HD (high-definition). What I don't like is that zooming is not available so I guess you can say that this camera is 1x. there is absolutely no zoom support so I did experience some restrictions when capturing photos.
The media playing on the Archos 43 Internet Tablet is pretty good. For music playback, I can use the speakers to listen to music. However, it is not possible to use the internal speakers to watch movies. I find that the sound is really low and I can barely hear the sound and the people talking. I have tried turning the Archos 43 Internet Tablet to maximum volume, but had no success. It is still very hard to hear so using ear buds is a must when watching movies.
The Archos 43 Internet Tablet can actually do a lot of things. However, there are two disadvantages. The first disadvantage is no multi-touch. Multi-touch really isn't necessary for regular applications. However, a lot of games cannot be played without the multi-touch option. First person shooting games cannot be played. The other disadvantage is the short battery life. I find that the battery drains pretty fast. If I use an application such as online poker, the battery will drain roughly 20% if I play for 45 minutes. Overall, I still like the Archos 43 Internet Tablet. However, I did return it because there is an issue. I find that the body isn't very well put together. When I push down on the screen with pressure, I feel a "cracking"/ "creaking" noise. This noise sounds like that the Archos is going to break in half. This is the only quality issue I have experienced. Other than this, I think that the Archos 43 Internet Tablet is worth buying. It is pretty cheap and is very useful.
