We purchased an Arctic Armor above-ground winter pool cover from PcPools.com. recently. We have an oval 16 x 32' partially sunk above-ground pool and liked that the Arctic brand winter cover came with an extra 4 ft. overlap plus an eight year warranty.
We decided not to open our pool this year. Less than ideal weather so far has turned almost every weekend into stormy ones and the temperature has not gotten as warm as we like by now. I drove home from work in mid-June and it was 59 degrees! This brought us to the decision to buy a new winter cover a little early as our old one had gone through one too many rough winters, and was starting to show a few trouble spots. " Better to do it now than wait until fall, " I said to my hubby
This Arctic Armor cover is made of a U.V. protected woven polyethylene which makes it strong enough for our Michigan winters. The top color is a dark blue and the underside is black to prevent algae growth. The hem around the cover is reinfored with double stitching for strength. Also included was a heavy-duty vinyl coated cable to thread through the metal grommets, and a winch to tighten the cover around the pool.
When the cover arrived we removed the old pool cover, made sure there was no debris in the pool, checked that the water was still clean and had enough chemicals, then covered it right back up with the new cover.
The benefits of covering the pool during the winter months is to keep leaves, dirt and debris out of our pool. This also means keeping out the ducks and geese that think our pool is a lake and take to making daily trips to our backyard. Probably the most important reason to cover our pool is to keep any of the neighborhood children from falling in. Although our yard is fenced in and we've never had a problem, it only takes one time.
Arctic Armor Pool Covers can be purchased for both above-ground and in-ground pools and gets our recommendation.
