I have been looking for a couple end tables for our living room for years now. I am looking for something that is as tall as our couches, long, and durable. The problem is that the ones I have liked are WAY out of my price range, and the ones that are affordable are too small or poorly constructed. When I saw an ad of these Ashley slate top end tables I thought it was going to be perfect. Unfortunately, the pictures made the table look better than they actually are.
First of all, the instructions are not right! I followed step one (screw all the legs on) and when I got to step two I couldn't do it! I had to unscrew 2 legs twice to get it put together correctly! To get the bolts screwed on you have to use this tiny Alan wrench because the angles are too tight to get a long handled wrench in there.
Once I got the frame together I started putting the slate on the top. I thought it was going to be one solid piece of slate, but it was 6 small pieces cut in different shapes and fitted together. The problem is that the pieces are not cut very well. they were slightly different thicknesses, which made the top uneven. Also, one piece was cut at a slant on one end so that piece rocked back and forth in it's slot.
The whole thing didn't seem that sturdy either. I had to on carpet and could easily tip it over and make it rock. Overall, the look of it was very nice, but the functionality was bad. We ended up taking these back to the store the next day.
