The UL80V is the 14" model of the Asus UL Series. As opposed to its aluminium lid cover, the rest of the chassis is made up of piano-black plastic, which makes it comfortable to carry around or in a backpack. It comes with a 14-inch LED-backlit widescreen LCD display and built-in Altec Lansing stereo speakers, boosted by SRS Premium Sound.
In term of connectivity, the left side of the UL80V is houses the HDMI, two USB 2.0, microphone and headphone ports. An extra USB port is placed on the right, along with the Gigabit Ethernet port, memory card slot, and a standard DVD Super Multi drive. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are present for wireless connectivity.
One of the most handy features of this notebook is that it can automatically activate either the integrated Intel GMA X4500HD or the more powerful NVIDIA GeForce G210M GPU. This mechanism relies on using the ASUS Power4Gear Hybrid feature: Battery Saving, Quiet Office, Entertainment, and High Performance to provide a balance of gaming/multimedia and portability.
With ASUS being directly marketing the UL Series’ through its 12-hour battery life, various other reviews have put the notebook at Battery Saving Mode using its Power4Gear Hybrid feature, set its display to the dimmest level, and run BatteryMark 4.0 to test out Asus' claims. The UL80V set a record of 7 hours and 48 minutes in one review, and much more similar times in others-BatteryMark tests are more rigorous than an average user, so technically, 9+ hours could be reached with the supplied 6-cell battery- unfortunately, brining it up to a borderline weight of 2kg
