I was recently forced to puchase a new monitor because my old monitor, which wasn't even that old to begin with, crapped out on me. It was a 22 inch Acer LCD and was pretty much a consumer's nightmare, but that's another story all together. The AsusVW224, although it isn't necessarily an essential buy, because there are monitors out there that are much more inexpensive, but as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for, it is a worthwhile buy. The price of this monitor might be a bit pricey for some, it was for me originally, but after doing some research, I knew that I would be getting the bang for my buck. Obviously, this isn't your everyday monitor one uses simply to pay the bills or write screenplays on. This is a machine - in every sense of the word. It has a screen size of 22 inches (wide screen), every centimeter emits high quality color. The maximum, as well as recommended, resolution is 1650 x 1050. This may seem extreme to some but for people who like to play games on their monitor or watch movies, whether they be streaming or DVDs, this monitor has the potential to view all of them with picture perfect quality. Personally, I enjoy watching 720P and 1080P (HD/BluRay) quality movies on it. The monitor has a horizontal refresh rate of 30 - 82 Khz and a vertical refresh rate of 56 - 76Hz. What this means is that your monitor will have no problem keeping up with the movements of your favorite DVD or favorite first person shooter. The monitor comes in a stylish, sleek black casing with buttons that are easily reached to change the monitors specifications to your liking. If you're not much of a monitor wiz, they already have preset settings which include: standard mode, theatre mode, game mode, night view mode, and scenery mode. Each mode changes the settings within the monitor to compensate for whatever it is you plan to use your monitor for. The names of the settings itself are pretty self-explanatory. The monitor itself has built in speakers. Although they aren't as powerful as I had hoped for, you could save some money on speakers with this two-in-one combo. The monitor has decent angle range in which you can move it up or down to your liking. The casing itself is pretty shiny, some may say it's too shiny and because of this, is a dust magnet. However, with minimal cleaning, you can keep it looking brand-spanking new. I would recommend this product to anybody who would put it to good use, you know who you are and take it from somebody who owns the Asus VW224 and loves it, it is worth every single cent.
