When the gas prices increased I had to come up with some ways of cutting my expenses; I decided to cut out my everyday coffee stop! In doing so, my fiance suggested buying a coffee maker, my arguement was, "Coffee tastes terrible when it is made from home." So we opted for a maker that we could grind the beans for a "better cup of brew"! We came up with the Cuisinart Grind and Brew Coffee Maker with a Thermal Carafe.
At first, I was leary... the directions were not very descriptive, but I managed. I assembled the unit added the coffee beans into what they called the hopper, added water and brewed. You can brew up to twelve cups, set the stength (light, medium or strong) and even program the unit to brew at a desired time. The grinder tends to be loud, but effective. The aroma is wonderful and the unit beeps to let you know the coffee is ready... I tried it! WOW - I really think it was the best cup of coffee I ever had!!! Unlike your every day coffee maker, it does not sit on a cooking pad causing the coffee to burn, it comes with a thermal carafe which keeps the coffee hot for quite some time.
You must clean the grinder every week to get the best preformance. It really is very easy and only takes a minute or two. It comes with a water filter that should be replaced after sixty uses and you can purchase a package of three for about $10.00. I use the permanent filter that comes with unit, but you can use paper filters too. I have used all sorts of beans from expensive to very inexpensive and though the taste is differnet, it still tastes great every time!
So, if you love a fresh cup of coffee and want to save a few dollars... this is the best way to go!
