The Aunt Dimity books are a series of mysteries written by Nancy Atherton. I came upon a few of these books in my local library, which is what started me reading the series.
In this novel, Lori Sheppard, our heroine, has just gotten through an especially harrowing event which almost cost her her life. She is recuperating but is plagued with nightmares. Her husband, Bill, sends her and the children, Will and Rob, along with nanny, Annelise, to a mountain resort in Bluebird, Colorado, in order for her to get some time away and have a change of scenery. The resort proves to be beautiful, but things are going on which cannot be explained. Aunt Dimity is a great help to Lori, but Aunt Dimity is dead. So how is she of assistance to Lori? Well, Lori has a blue journal, filled with blank pages, and she is able to converse with Aunt Dimity through the pages of this journal. All she has to do is talk, and Aunt Dimity's handwriting appears on the page. Aunt Dimity is actually an old friend of Lori's mother, also deceased.
Aunt Dimity Goes West is an entertaining book, and I thoroughly enjoy the relationship Lori has with Aunt Dimity. I especially enjoy the way Lori is able to converse with Aunt Dimity from the great beyond. The story kept me guessing, and I eagerly read and enjoyed it from beginning to end. Now I'm looking forward to the next Aunt Dimity story I can get my hands on.
