"Nightmare!" screams Avenged Sevenfold singer Matt Shadows [aka Matt Sanders] as the thunderous new single begins. You can tell right off the bat this is going to be a memorable song. It has a truly eery introduction, which helps aid the 'nightmare' theme of the song. Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy has done a great job on the drum tracking for the song, and has also done a good job of replicating deceased drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan's style. The song also has a very "City of Evil" [the band's 2005 album] vibe to it, and also that of the 2007 self titled album, which you can hear in the beginning with the orchestra. It has anything an Avenged Sevenfold fan could want from the song; beastly guitar riffs, a blistering guitar solo [the solo in "Nightmare, " however, isn't as blistering as many of their other songs], and the classic A7X guitar harmonies. Also, every single aspect of the song fits. The drums, guitars, bass, and vocals all seem to blend together in a single mix of pure amazing. Any Avenged Sevenfold fan, or anyone who enjoys hard rock or metal in general [unless they specifically don't like Avenged Sevenfold] will enjoy this single.
