I love Burt's Bee's Products ! I haven't tried one yet that I haven't liked so naturally when our newest family member arrived we decided to go with the Burt's Bee's Baby Bee Products. Especially with how sensitive a baby’s skin is.There are a number of things that I really like about this particular product.
I think the most important one to me is that it is 98.47% Natural.
The Baby Bee Buttermilk Soap cleanses, moisturizes, and calms irritated skin with mild, gentle NATURAL ingredients.
vegetable soap base, glycerin, honey, buttermilk powder, avena sativa (oat) kernel meal, fragrance
A word about buttermilk-
I really didn’t know anything about buttermilk and it’s usage in skin care products but it sounded interesting so I went to Burt’s Bee’s website to investigate.
Apparently buttermilk is higher / richer in fats and emollients than whole milk and it has been used for centuries as a natural, skin cleanser and softener.
Oat flour is used in this soap to help calm any irritated skin.
The Honey and glycerin moisturize.
Burt’s Bee’s also uses 100% natural preservatives instead of parabens . Reading Burt’s Bee’s website they say “Some parabens are potential endocrine disruptors, meaning that they may interfere with the body’s hormone system.”
(This of course is used like you would use any other kind of bar soap!)
“Create a lather and gently wash your baby's entire body, avoiding the eyes.”
Burt’s Bee’s clearly marks all of their packaging with what they call a “natural bar” which very clearly tells you exactly how natural that specific product is. For Baby Bee Buttermilk Soap it says 98.47%
This soap comes in a 3.5oz, cream colored, circle shaped bar. The bar is approximatly 2.5 inches in diameter. There is a light fragrance that smells a lot like a baby fresh scent with what seems like a hint of apricot…I know it sounds different but it is very light and it is pleasant.
WHEN WE USE THIS SOAP
We started using this soap to bathe our son when he was a newborn, even his first bath!
When I had my older children they used anti-bacterial DIAL at the hospital …this may be ok..I mean they’ve been doing it for years but we wanted something gentler and more natural. I had a C-section and was in recovery when they were going to give baby his first bath . We had brought a bar of this Baby Bee’s soap with us so my husband stopped the nurse and asked her to use the Baby Bee’s instead. They did and we were happy .
When we bathe baby, we lather up a wash cloth, it's just easier for us to wash the little guy this way. We find that this soap has a creamy texture, and a light lather, so it doesnt foam up” a whole lot but it does a good job. This soap does not feel waxy or oily. It rinses off very easily and doesn’t leave a slippery residue on baby. We have found no irritation or drying effects from this soap. We use it to wash his hair (he doesn’t really have any) as well as all of his body parts. After his bath we always follow up with Burt’s Bee’s Baby Bee’s Buttermilk Lotion ( this also has the same fragrance) Baby is clean, his skin is soft and he smells wonderful!
NOT JUST FOR BABIES!!!
This soap is NOT just for babies it is suitable for sensitive skin of all ages. My very first experience with this soap was years ago. My Psoriasis are irritated easily by most soaps and body washes. A friend suggested I try the Baby Bee’s soap so I did and I can say that it never once caused any drying or irritation to my skin or psoriasis areas. It was actually quite soothing. It did seem like it moisturized (lightly) pretty well….granted it’s not the dry skin cure but it did seem to help.
This is easy to find at most if not all natural food stores. I have seen Walgreen's carry these products. I paid $4.19 for one 3.5oz bar at our small local natural foods market but I have seen it priced and paid anywhere from $3.49 to $4.99 for one bar.
I would recommend this Burt’s Bee’s Baby Bee’s Buttermilk soap for anyone who has sensitive skin or just wants to use a more natural soap, but especially for babies!
We still use it and still love it.
