Bata, by Choice, and so was my choice. Bata was my companion to school and so it is my daughter's now. It was always the first choice.
When my daughter first needed her canvas shoes, I went for Bata. It was blue then. She used it everyday, until she grew out of it. It still lies underneath a pile of "grown out" items awaiting my 2nd one.
But, there came a day when her uniform was changed, and she had to wear white canvas shoes everyday. It was a big blow to me, because maintainance would be a problem. The white showed dust more clearly than the blue one. I thought I had to scrub and scrub, and then apply a white polish. Also, more scrubbing means wear and tear.
I had a surprise waiting, at least the end part. The wear and tear with scrubbing was minimum. I bought her 2 pairs for her to wear for the 5 days of the week and every sunday, I would scrub the 4 shoes. I did not need the white polish either. The shoes lasted more than 6 months, after which my kid outgrew it.
The same cannot be said about a local brand which I purchased due to non-availability of Bata shoes. I had to use the white polish, and it lasted only 3 months. Also, the price was Rs.10 more.
