Beach Cover Up Or Evening Gown?

My husband and I are spending a week at the beach, and we're staying in a house right on the ocean. Usually we dress very casually. However, tonight I fixed a homemade spaghetti dinner. As is often the case after cooking, chopping onions and peppers, and washing dishes, I was looking pretty ragged. (How does Rachel Ray do it? LOL!) In fact, I'm embarrassed to say that I spent all day in my nightgown.

While my husband dozed on the sofa, I decided to surprise him. I ran upstairs, freshened up, and changed into this very versatile black beach dress. It looks a bit like a nice evening gown when dressed up, or it would make a great cover-up after a day on the beach. I put on a rhinestone necklace with it, fluffed up my hair, and lit a few candles. He woke up as I was coming down the stairs, and thought he was dreaming. LOL! His exact words were, "Wow-what a difference a gown makes." I went from nightgown to the appearance of an evening gown in minutes. The effect was quite dramatic and romantic.

Who would have guessed that I grabbed this dress as a last minute purchase at Walmart? It is strapless and has an elasticized smocked top. The dress falls straight from the bust line, and is floor length. By adding an elegant necklace, it was stunning. (And yet, oh so comfortable.) It looks great with sandals or dressy flip flops, and it's made of 73% polyester, 22% rayon, and 5% spandex.

It is machine washable on the gentle cycle, and though it can be tumbled dried, I think I will hang it to dry to avoid shrinkage. What a great way to look dressed up, without really having to go to a lot of effort! My husband loved it! And all for $15.00!!!
